And still MORE Argentine Photos

This bird politely posed for a picture while I was hiking along Los Glaciares National Park.

Random scenery for your wallpaper is nice.

We got to Buenos Aires in the middle of a Parade

to remember the disappeared.

The view from my balcony.

This symbol represents the Grandmothers who went looking for their disappeared grandchildren

a precursor to the Raging Grannies.

Obilisk at the Plaza de Mayo

to celebrate the first anniversary of the May Revolution in 1810.

This is the facade of the church where Pope Francis was Bishop.

A Statue of Evita waving

and another statue.

A picture of Evita's Tomb.

More pictures of the graveyard

And where we went for pizza after.

Those who know me KNOW that I had to go to El Ateneo Grand Splendid

though the leaking of American Culture depressed me.

And other bookstores are having problems.

Los Glaciares National Park...the Glacier

You're RIGHT,  my pictures of Perito Moreno deserve their own section!!!

Perito Moreno is 74 meters high, and is still advancing.  It's HUGE.

That break happened 2 years ago.

I think I can see a frozen death eater there.

That ice cube is 240 feet above the water.

Where the icebergs wore down the mountains.

We weren't sure if that's an animal or an ice sculpture.

We're still not.

It's about the size of Buenos Aires, not quite 97 square miles.

Look!  It's an ice chair!

It just melts a little bit, and refreezes.

You can tell these two pieces were once connected....

It's been melting and refreezing for over 12 thousand years.

Here's an aerial view of the glacier to give you a sense of how big it REALLY is.

I think that's the same chunk of ice, but seen from the other side and from a boat.

A view of the glacier seen from a distance,

or seen a little closer.

MORE Chile and Argentina Pictures

There's a poem somewhere between these two pictures, I'm just not sure where.

Burnt trees leading the way.....  (The park is still recovering from a forest fire from 2011)

I got across this bridge, but only by talking myself through it.

A view of tourists walking across the falls Los Glaciares National Park.  It is the end of summer there, and thus it is the end of the dry season.  In another a few months, this will all be water.

The condor got its food, and flew off.

More hanging glaciers.

A spare ice cube on the walk at Los Glaciares National Park, and I just thought this looked pretty.

Pepe Le Peu did NOT disturb our walk, but we did quiet down.

In 1895, Hermann Eberhard discovered the Cueva del Milodon Monument,
or at least is credited with discovering the prehistoric remains of the Giant Sloth there.

Later, other remains were found and it is recognized that about 11 thousand years ago, our early ancestors would have lived in this cave, trying very hard not to die from the cold.

That was where fire remains were found.

The local beer.

An homage to the gaucho, a national symbol in Chile of the cowboy.

A view of the steppe.
